What is a dental implant?

What is a dental implant

A dental implant is the closest thing to a natural tooth. It is a special surgical grade titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone below the gum surface. They are custom made for you, following the specifications that Dr. Nadler determines.

After the dental implant is placed, there is a period of time where the bone and your new implant will need to heal together to provide a stable place for your new tooth.

The dental implants allow you to chew freely again. They will improve your appearance and give you your confidence back.

Whether you need multiple teeth replaced or just one, dental implants are a stable, secure method to restore your happy smile!

Find out if you are a candidate for dental implants

The ideal candidate for a dental implant is in good general and oral health. Adequate bone in your jaw is needed to support the implant. Some people who have lost bone in their jaw can still get implants, but the bone must first be rebuilt using special bone-grafting procedures.

People who are not good candidates for dental implants include:

  • Young patients whose jawbones have not fully developed.
  • People with existing medical conditions; although if you can have routine dental treatment you can generally have an implant placed. (While precautions are advisable for certain conditions, even patients with such chronic diseases as high blood pressure and diabetes are usually successful candidates for dental implant treatment.)
  • Patients who take certain medications such as steroids or drugs that suppress the immune system.
